2 in solitude

A pop-up exhibition, showcasing artworks by Marta Balla and Kata H. Jancsó, participating in the Dr Éva Kahan Non-Profit Foundation’s art residency program. The artists spent a month in January 2020 at the residency in San Sano, Tuscany, Italy. Their artworks, created during their stay and after their return, are exhibited in this show. San Sano’s inspiring environment, complete isolation, Tuscany’s wonderful nature and the foundation’s absolute support made an ideal setting for genuine self-expression. The exhibited creations reflect on both artists’ creative process during the residency.

We’ve spent an amazing month in Tuscany. The whole experience was like a dream – the most wonderful dream an artist can have. Just the two of us on a huge estate, accompanied by olive trees, bees, flowering rosemary bushes and deers. The wall of our studio was made of glass and overlooked the magnificent
Tuscan hills. This atmosphere was so inspiring that practically we spent the whole month creating artworks. We painted and drew every day – from morning till late afternoon. A lot of works came to life, so we could hardly choose which ones to exhibit to the public.
