This painting was created as part of a collaborative series with Greek poet and writer Spyros Siamos, inspired by his evocative poem.

“…Look at the insects, with heavy armor they wear as their clothes the permanent ones. And they are always clean and shining, so that the sun may see his bright form upon them and you to see yourself as a sun and shine. Look at the emptiness of pulsative silence on the back of an insect.”

I was particularly drawn to the image of the insect’s back as a place of “pulsative silence”—something at once delicate, protective and unknowable. I translated this idea into layers of blue, turquoise and luminous white, creating a form that seems to emerge from silence while simultaneously reflecting light back to the viewer. The work became a visual meditation on nature, perception and the hidden worlds that exist beneath the surface.
