This was the second painting I created during my artist residency in Puerto Rico @lostcoastartcolony
Each morning, before dawn, I was awakened by the neighbor’s rooster calling in the sun. In that fragile moment between sleep and wakefulness, when dreams had not yet fully dissolved into daylight, ideas for new paintings would often emerge.
In Puerto Rico, the rooster holds a special place in the culture and is often seen as a symbol of resilience, pride, and the rhythms of everyday life. During my residency, its call became part of my daily experience—a voice announcing the transition from night into day. This painting was inspired by those dawn moments when I was neither fully asleep nor fully awake, and new images would quietly appear. The Rooster’s Hour is a tribute to that time of day—the moment when the world begins to stir and imagination awakens with it.
